Harley J. Scroggs


Harley J. Scroggs, 74, and Janice M. Scroggs, 65, of Fort Meade, MD, both passed at home from different conditions. Janice fought a long battle with cancer and took her last breath on January 8th , 2020. Harley joined his wife in death after a fatal heart attack on October 30th, 2023. Janice was born in Corpus Christi, TX on August 13th , 1955 and Harley was born in Sioux Falls, SD on March 11th , 1949. They were united in marriage in April of 1990 in Janice’s hometown of Corpus Christ, TX. Harley and Janice spent 30 years together.

They lived in Texas from 1990-1994 before moving to Omaha, NE, Baltimore, MD and then Clearwater, FL. The couple is preceded in death by both of their parents, their siblings, and Harley’s son, Leslie Butler.
They are both survived by their youngest daughter, Sarah Aasum, their oldest daughter, Tina Degenstien, their oldest son, Royce Adams, son, Clifford Scroggs, daughter, Christal Scroggs, 10 grandkids, their cat named Boots, and their dog, Buddy.

Harley Scroggs spent 25 years in the Army and went on to work in construction while
Janice Scroggs ran the VFW for years and her full-time job was caring for her husband’s health. They were members of the VFW and the American Legion. Harley loved to fish and BBQ, watch football, drive his wife crazy, and also loved the military, his kids, and his dogs.

Janice loved animals, her kids and family, and her thing was ice cream and Oreo cookies. They both shared a love of water and the beach. Harley was proud of his 6 kids, his military career, and his wife Janice. Janice was proud of her 6 kids, 10 grandkids, and sobriety. Harley was known for being a jumper in the army and for having huge hands.
He liked to buff his kids on the head when walking by them. Janice was known for her bigger than life heart for other people and animals. There was never a question she didn’t have an answer for and she always knew what to do.

A service in their memory will be held on Sunday, October 12 th, 2023 aboard
Double Eagle Charters out in the Gulf of Mexico, near Clearwater, FL.
