Henry Schlachheit, 80, of Seminole, Florida, passed away on April, 25, 2018, at the Florida Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was born in Germany in 1938 and immigrated to the United States when he was 18. He made a career of of being a mechanic.
His Granddaughter wrote, “Opa came from a war divided country. He knew the value of a dollar and the meaning of hard work. He would always spend Christmas Eve with us despite having worked all day and then driving through the night. He was a simple man who appreciated a good fart joke; but, understood how to make a garden grow. He had a beautiful dog named Rex which is how I chose the name for our Dex. I hope you find eternal peace and I hope you are playing catch with Rex again. I love you forever more.”
While he was not a veteran, he would help deliver blankets that his wife made to American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts. When he lived in Pennsylvania he was a passionate gardener.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his daughters, Jacqueline Lalevee of Tampa, Florida and Elaine Welter of Trinity, Florida; grandchildren, Jamie Seal, Jessie and Ian; and great-grandchild, Josie.
Will be missed great guy many memories prayer’s with and for Marge also
Henry was a long time friend of ours having met him and sweet Margie in NJ. When we moved to Florida we discovered him living not far from us. He was a member of Seminole Elks, and many of our members will miss him. May he rest in piece.
I’ve know Henry and Marge for many years and have had a lot of good times with them at the VFW and Am Legion.
My condolences go out to the Marge and the family.
