Herbert Hirsch was born February 5, 1926 in Gary, Indiana to Emil and Natalie Hirsch and passed away May 19,, 2022 after a long and full life. Herb graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1944 and entered World War II. He served in the U.S. Army Corps in World War II, and then also served in Korean War in U.S. Air Force.
Herb graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington and was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He worked for United States Gypsum Company in Chicago, where he met his future wife.
He married Suzanne Phillips May 18, 1957 In Muscatine, Iowa, and they have 2 children: Patti Hirsch Hinshaw (Bruce) and Tom Hirsch (Paula). Grandchildren: Justin Hinshaw, Jason Hinshaw, Joshua Hinshaw, Will Hirsch, Katie Hirsch.
Herb worked for Collins Radio, Cedar Rapids, Iowa for 12 years before moving to Largo, FL in January 1970 to work for Honeywell, in the communications equipment marketing arena.
Herb was active in Christ the King Lutheran Church, Largo and was a member of the American Legion Post 273 in Madeira Beach.
Surviving are his loving wife of 65 years Suzanne, his daughter Patti Hinshaw (Bruce) of Charlotte, NC, son Tom (Paula) of Jacksonville along with beloved grandchildren Justin, Jason, Joshua, Will and Katie; sister Irma Nulton of Indiana, sister-in-law Martha Hirsch of Oregon; plus many nieces and nephews. His brother Jim and sisters Hertha Chubbs and Emma Bachmann and brothers-in-law, Howard Bachmann, John Nulton and Harold Chubbs preceded him in death, as well as his parents.
Herb loved his family and they were always the main focus of his life. He enjoyed flying and had rebuilt a Stinson airplane when he lived in Iowa. He also liked to hunt, play golf, hiked Longs Peak, a “14er” in Colorado, and did his own yard work until he was 86!
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 11220 Oakhurst Road, Largo FL 33774.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 4, at Christ the King at10 AM with the Service beginning at 11 AM.
I love you Dad! You were the best Dad, husband and Papa there could be. You will be in my heart forever. I’ll love you always; until we meet again.
