DCAA was never the same after Hugh left. We didn’t laugh nearly as much! Hugh was always there on birthday day to sing off-tune and make some hilarious remark about the one being honored, but that is just one of many things I remember about him. He was definitely a unique individual and I feel blessed to have known him. Please know that I share your grief in his loss.

Just two weeks ago, we were making arrangements at Veterans Funeral Home for my Dad……and now you are there for Hugh. Never did we suspect to hear this sad news! We missed seeing you both last month; but we’re anxious for our October visit. Hugh always made us feel like we’ve known him forever. A great communicator with a wonderful smile. Yes, he definitely loved all his girls! His face would light up just at the mention of you or them. Steve is going to miss all the sports talks!
Accept our sincere condolences. I know your heart must be breaking, Margie.
Love,
Linda and Steve Tilley

Hugh’s family: My words cannot fully convey my feelings at this time, as Hugh was the best of the best. We used to laugh at how about how our lives paralleled each other. Appalachia, Indiantown Gap, Cumberland Valley Pa, Vietnam, 2 great daughters, and finally DCAA. We even came to the conclusion that we probably were having beers at the same bars at the same time, not knowing what fate had in the cards. I always kidded Hugh that he was my older evil twin, as we were born one day apart. Hugh always had my back and I always tried to have his. He was a great family man, American and friend. He will be missed and thought of often. May God provide His comfort and consolation to you all at this time of sadness in the knowledge that Hugh is at peace now with the Father and that some day you will be united to share His glory.
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Prayers for your family during this difficult time and loss of a love one. 🙏🏻
We thank you for Hugh’s service to his country as a veteran in the US Army. 🇺🇸
As a loving husband, father, and man of God he will be greatly missed by many.
He is now with his brother Larry in Heaven.
Take rest in that today.
Revelation 21:4 “ ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Shocked to hear this news. Hugh was one of my best friends growing up and we kept in loose touch over the years. My condolences to his wife and family. I will certainly miss him.
Margie, I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
We are very sorry to hear of Hugh’s passing. This was such a shock, since it hasn’t been long ago that he was talking about eating PB sandwiches on FB. Our HS class of 62 has lost another wonderful person, and my brother, Bobby, probably welcomed Hugh into Heaven. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, and may God provide all of you with comfort now and for days ahead. God bless 🙏.

So sorry to learn of Hugh’s passing. Fond memories of him as a fellow ’62 graduate. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family during this difficult time.
Margie, Julie, and Christie,
We are so sorry for the loss of Hugh. Please know you are in our thoughts.
Sorry for the loss of my old Army roommate. Hugh and I roomed together in 1966 at Fort Lee VA when we were both 2nd Lieutenants. We lost touch and I was so glad to find him on facebook after some 45 years; he was a good friend and I will miss the communications we had over the last few years. Condolences to his family.
I am so sorry to hear about Hugh. I remember how kind he was in high school. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Gloria
I enjoyed working with Hugh at the Tampa Bay Branch of DCAA. He always had a funny or cheerful comment to offer. He also recommended I try his preferred running shoes: New Balance. Hugh was a pleasure to work with and relief to chat with — especially after lengthy and contentious discussions with the Region. My thoughts and prayers are with Hugh’s family.
Steve Brown and Family
Hugh is the first person I recall meeting when I started with DCAA back in 1989. Eight of us auditors were all stowed away in two box-like rooms down the hall from the main office. Not yet ready for prime time.
Behind his big wooden desk, Hugh imparted words of wisdom I only now wish I had committed to paper. He kept the mood light, and his humor was never at someone’s expense; always kind.
He told us all that his days spent on the state-side of Viet Nam chaos, were all BONUS Days. And he uttered the word “BONUS” with an emphatic Kentuckian drawl that was signature Hugh Gott.
His words were so penetrable to our lives that we coined the term “Gottism” to describe his collective of slant prose and comedic perspective on all that is life. He forever marveled at what he believed was the greatest invention ever brought before mankind- with the lone exception of PB&J, lunch everyday at always the same time. But, the greatest invention, he bellowed, was undoubtedly the Thermos. It was so good he quipped, the thermos knew to keep cold things cold, and hot things hot. He would follow with, “How do it know?” while wryly smiling with one eye nearly closed.
He made a difference in all our lives, and please know this: That somewhere, a man is telling Heavenly stories, and amusing all with anecdotes to ease their worries, and lighten angelic loads. Perhaps now he is telling a group how lucky he was, and how lucky he now is, to have finally made it to Double Bonus Days. We will miss you Hugh Gott.
I am saddened by the loss of this brave and thoughtful man who always referred to his “bride” when he mentioned the love of his life. We graduated high school together and have communicated some through Facebook in recent years. We got in trouble in Geometry class one time when Hugh whispered a query of what time it was. Since we weren’t supposed to talk, I just held up my watch so he could see the time. Our teacher “caught” me and embarrassed us in front of the entire class. Well, she embarrassed me; Hugh probably thought it was funny. May the Peace of Philippians 4:6,7 comfort you as you grieve your loss. God bless all of High’s family.

No words of sympathy can take away the feeling loved ones have for their loss. One more of our class members has left this earth and will be missed. I know I’ll go to Heaven when I die. It’s just the uncertainty of life and death that boggles my mind, for our brains can’t comprehend eternity. God be with us all.
Margie and Family,
We are deeply saddened to hear the news of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I was blessed to work with Hugh at DCAA for several years. Hugh was a Great American and avid Kentucky Wildcat fan. As a Carolina fan, Hugh and I enjoyed several discussions about “our” teams. Because I am a Carolina fan Hugh found a Carolina sweatshirt at a yardsale a gave it to me. I wore that sweatshirt for ten years. I always enjoyed our discussions about a variety of topic including politics, yard sales, and family. It was a pleasure working with Hugh and I always enjoyed his sharp wit and sense of humor. Hugh touched my life in a special way and I will always have fond memories of him. It is with sincere regret that I am unable to attend the service, but my thoughts and prayers are with you. May God bless you all. Chuck
We are so sorry for your loss! We love you!!
Dear Margie and family,
Not sure that I ever met Hugh, but knowing the wonderful person and friend that you’ve always been to me – He had to have been just as “Special”..My sincere sympathy, love, prayers and thoughts are with you all at this time. Your love for one another, for Hugh and for your Heavenly Father is what will strengthen you and provide the peace that you need at this time.
Much love, hugs and prayers to each of you.

Hugh and I were in the HHS Class of “62. Great guy. Prayers are with wife and family. Hugh is in God’s arms now and will rest in peace. Buddy
I was saddened to hear of Hugh’s passing. He had a way of brightening everyone’s day. I vividly remember interviewing Hugh for an auditor position with DCAA. He joked that we should beware of hiring him, as his last few employers went out of business (the last being Florida Federal). My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Our heartfelt sympathy is with the Gott Family
