James Beacom


James Stanley Beacom, 95, of Largo, died on July 12, 2021. Born in Marquette township, Michigan, to Oliver Turner Beacom & Lillian Hillock Beacom. He came here to Florida in 2000 from Madison Heights, Michigan.

Awards and Decorations

He joined the Army in June 1944 and earned two Bronze Battle Stars on his European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon at the battle of the Rhine and in Central Europe. He was a rifle marksman. He was also awarded a Good Conduct award, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Army Occupation Medal (Germany). 

Life and Family

After the war he worked for Fisher Body, Hudson Motor Company, Glimes Construction, Northside Heat Treat, built the furnaces to harden steel. He was a Methodist. He is preceded in death by his wife Alberta “Bert” (Waybrant) Beacom of 68 years. Additionally he is survived by his daughters Nancy Schewee, Linda Doyle (Joe), Peggy Campbell (George), and Beth Masters, grandchildren – James Schewee, Timothy Schewee, Jennifer Lane, Kathleen Doyle, Julie Paterson, Jeffrey Campbell and Penny Vickers; eight great grandchildren – Zachary Schewee, Evelyn Paterson, Eleanor Paterson, Austin Masters, Katelynne Jennings, Alison Campbell, Macie Campbell, Reyna Campbell; great-great grandchildren Peter Garcia and Jeremy Jennings.

Services

A graveside service with military honors provided by the United States Army is still in the process of scheduling at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
