Jason “Jay” Michael Johnson, 41, passed away the night of April 14, 2016 in Gulfport, Florida. Jay’s life was spent surrounded by family and friends that Jay had touched in some way throughout his memorable life.
Jay’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time which one lives. He always had a smile that comforted those that seen it. Jay gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the joy of life.
Jay was a graduate of Pearl High School Class of “93.” Directly after graduation, he joined the United States Navy as an intelligence specialist while pursuing a bachelors degree at the University of Maryland.
Jay honorably served his country from 1993 to 2002 when he was honorably discharged and began his career as a contractor, continuing his love for the Intelligence Community. In 2007, Jay found home at MacDill Airforce Base, Special Operations Command where he continued to support our country with his unparalleled intelligence abilities. Jay retired from the intelligence community in 2012.
Jay loved anything that had to do with the idea of acquiring new knowledge and learning aspects of life he did not know. Jay enjoyed reading anything and everything he could get his hands on. He also loved his beloved city of Gulfport, Florida. When asked if he was ever going to return home, Jay’s response was simply, “Gulfport is my home.”
Jay is survived by his grandparents Wayne and Louise Johnson of Pear, MS, brother Jerry Anthony Johnson of Tampa, Florida, sister Courtney Suzanne Wynne of Richland, MS and his father Jerry Wayne Johnson and step mother Becky Johnson, of Medenhall, MS.
Due to his military service, his wish was to be scattered by the USS Kennedy over the Atlantic Ocean. Since Jay will be scattered at sea, in lieu of flowers the family will be accepting donations to go towards expenses and St. Jude’s Medical Center for children.
Friends and family are invited to share a memory and sign his guestbook below.
