Jay James Dunn, age 66, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
Born on December 24, 1959, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Jay was the son of the late Winifred Dunn and John DeCeasar. He proudly served 8 years in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Tradesman 2nd Class before receiving an honorable discharge on April 19, 1985.
After his military service, Jay decided to settle in beautiful St Petersburg, FL and built a small software business from home, then went on to start a career in Flight Safety at MacDill AFB. He retired early at the age of 59 and enjoyed spending his time outdoors. An avid fisherman, hunter, camper, and boater, Jay found great joy in nature and the simple pleasures of life. He was known for his dry humor and sarcasm, which endeared him to those who knew him well.
Jay is survived by his loving spouse of 30 years, Janet Parmely; her son, Denny; his beloved niece, Jessica Dunn; and his two estranged sisters, Donna and Sharon Dunn. He also cherished his two cats, Mackey and Tommy, who brought him great joy.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by a Military Honors service at noon. Services will be held at Veterans Funeral Care, 830 N. Belcher Rd., Clearwater, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jessica Dunn or Janet Parmely at 4130 or 4140 45th Ave N.
