Jean Elizabeth Hurst, age 93, of Tampa, FL passed away on March 29th, 2024. She was born in Peoria, IL to her loving parents L. Cullen Hunt and Clara (Palmer) Hunt on January 11th, 1931. Jean was married to her husband Ronald Allen Hurst on December 11th, 1954 and they were together for 69 years. Jean earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Marquette University. She cherished her role as a mother and also spent time writing for various publications, teaching, and selling cars. Jean was also a skilled master bridge player and taught bridge to many friends. Although she claimed she wasn’t an athlete, she took up tennis and golf later in life and enjoyed doing both. Jean is proceeded in death by her parents, L. Cullen and Clara Hunt, her daughters, Karen Marie Hurst and Teresa Lynn Brock, her son, Timothy Hunt Hurst, and her grandson, Ron Hurst. She is survived by her husband, Ron, her sons, Greg Hurst (Donna) and Scott Hurst (Irene), her daughter, Pam Mochal (Tom), her sister, Mary Francis Gainey, her grandchildren, Brett Hurst (Tracy), Lindsay Hendrix, Sean Mochal (Kira), and Ashley Newby (Andrew), and her great-grandchildren, Cullen Hendrix, Reid, Ellery and Jules Mochal, Evan, Cole and Alice Newby.
Jean will always be remembered as smart and witty. She never met a stranger. She loved to entertain and no doubt heaven now has a new social director. The family would like to thank Accent Care hospice for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Research Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
