Jennie Atsales

Jennie Atsales of St. Petersburg, Florida, died peacefully on October 29, 2023. She was 98. Jennie was born on September 19, 1925 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late Ruth and Gus Parthen

Jennie married the love of her life, John Atsales on April 20, 1947, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Providence, Rhode Island. They moved to St. Petersburg in 1966. They were married for 67 years before he passed away on February 19, 2014. She was a housewife/homemaker and retired from Belk Lindsey in St. Petersburg after 10 years.

Survivors include: two daughters, Marsha Crews and Raynia Hemmer, two grandchildren Chris (Dr. Jessica Pierce) Hemmer, and Sharlee (Frank Wyszynski) Crews; one great-grandson, Luca Yiannis Wyszynski, and nieces and nephews including, Julie Iaciofano, Ralph Palmieri, CJ Boris, David Atsales and Maria Dubey.

Her family was her most important part of her life. She was the matriarch of the family. With so much love she kept her family close and taught the importance of family connection, support, and love. She especially loved being a grandmother; very devoted. And she lived her life her own way, no matter what; never wavered. She was quite a strong presence.

She was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Providence and St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church in St. Petersburg. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, and cooking, which had to be given up due to blindness from Macular Degeneration. Other than Macular Degeneration and being very hard of hearing, she was an amazingly healthy 98-year-old and even continued to live in her own home.

She will be buried with her husband John at the Bay Pines National Cemetery, on November 15, 2023 by Veterans Funeral Care 727-524-9202. For those asking to donate to her favorite charity, she was very partial to the National Foundation of Cancer Research.
