I was a neighbor, teammate, and friend of Jerry Evans. I have so many pleasant memories of games, conversations, back yard basketball behind my house, and his weight room in what he called the “little house.” He was only a sophomore when we won the basketball championship but a “rock” in the center of our team. I marveled at the way he committed to things be it basketball, biking, or cameras. He was a good man and a dear friend. I will miss him.
Jerry and I graduated together. The last time I saw him he was on his bike in Crisfield. He told me how far he had come on his bike and I was impressed. I liked Jerry very much. So sorry he is gone.
I was so sorry to hear about Jerry. I have such fond memories of Jerry playing on our 1957 Basketball Championship Team. We laughed together when he was in Crisfield about me seeing all elbows and knees when we played due to his height. He was a nice guy and I extend my sympathies to his loved ones.
Jerry was a lifelong friend and I grieve with the Evans family at his passing. As kids, we spent countless hours at each other’s houses and my parents always thought of him as family. Wonderful memories. I was fortunate to have been on the 1957 basketball team where we watched him grow into a force to be reckoned with on the court. The athletic ability, teamwork, intelligence, drive, and courage that Jerry exhibited at such an early age were precursors for how he would live his life. Quite simply, he was a remarkable man and he touched the lives of many people. My deepest sympathies to his family. I will miss my dear friend.
Jerry was a great friend and I was privileged to know him all my life. The world was a better place because he lived here. I now live in Williamsburg, VA and the last time I talked to Jerry was as he passed through here on one of his rides from Florida to the north for a visit with his daughter. He called and we talked a long time on the phone. He heard I had been in the hospital and wanted to see how I was doing. I am truly sorry for Jerry’s family and friends that will miss him.
