PATRICK-PHILP, Joan T. 1939-2014
Tragically on November 30, 2014, Joan was struck and killed by a vehicle in Florida while visiting her sons. Survived by her loving husband, Richard Philp; her cherished family members: two sons, David Patrick and Robert Patrick and wife, Sallie (Moore); two grandsons, Douglas and Daniel Patrick; a niece, Cheryl Van Waterschoot (Rhoads) and husband Rick, their children, Margaret and Matthew Van Waterschoot; a nephew, Rick Rhoads and wife, Barbara (Malarz), and their daughter, Lauren Rhoads. She will also be greatly missed as well by her second family: Erica (Philp) and Jon Gatten, Bruce Philp and Linda, Liz (Philp) Short and Tony, and Brendan Philp.
After coming to Canada in 1951 with her parents, the late Joan and Archie Whiteford, and sister Margaret Rhoads (Whiteford) to the Windsor area, she moved to London where, for 28 years, Joan managed the Canadian Bible Society bookstore. In recent years she has been a dedicated volunteer at the Chelsey Park Nursing Home. Joan touched the lives of many with her kindness, compassion, love and selfless nature.
Joan also leaves behind many extended family members, friends and acquaintances and she will be dearly missed by all. If there be angels, she is with them.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart & Stroke Foundation in her memory.
Mum,
You taught all of us what it is to be a good, caring and kind-hearted person. You saw much joy and much tragedy in your life but always guided us to know that everything happens for a reason. Right now, there doesn’t seem to be any good reason why you were so suddenly taken from us, but I know that one day we’ll be together again and that you’ll be able to explain to me the whys and wherefores. I know I’ll feel better about all of it then…just as you always made me feel better about everything when you were still with us physically. Until then, know that you are deep in our thoughts, and although you are sorely missed, fond memories prevail.
Your loving son,
Rob
