Joan W. Turner “Mema”, 83, of 1661 S. Young Avenue, Clearwater, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015.
She was born on Sept. 2, 1932, in Birmingham, Alabama, a daughter of the late William Austin Watson and Mildred Horan Watson.
She was a member and Past President of Ladies Auxiliary of the Turner Branch Post #7 American Legion, 1953 Delegate of Clearwater High School to Tallahassee Girls State 1950, Graduated CHS 1951 – a good half dozen years active at CHS, Member of Wives of Springtime Kiwanis (SKIWIS), Member and Director in Clearwater Junior Women’s Club, Member and Board Member of Clearwater Y.W.C.A., Member of the Junior League, Co- Founder of Alleen Moon Young Adult Sunday School Group at First United Methodist Church. Until retirement at the end of the year 2012, served as the Secretary and Treasurer of Turner Printing Co., Inc. Clearwater, Florida. Her hobbies included seamstress, basket weaving, fishing, boating, camping and playing bridge. She was very involved in her High School Class of 1951. She was a board member of the Clearwater Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph K. Turner, Jr. of Clearwater, Mother to Sons: Mark J. Turner of Dunedin, Michael W. Turner & his wife, Donna of Seminole, Charles E. Turner of Clearwater. Daughters in Law: Michelle Turner of Clearwater, Lori S. Chestnut of Bainbridge, GA. Grandchildren (11): Mark J. Jr., Jason, Jessica L., Amber L., Bryan and his wife, Richelle, Nathan D., Kevin and Nichole, Kyle and his wife, Courtney, and Great-Grandchildren (7): Mikaela, Aimee, Lillie, Austin, Taylor, Ava L. and Alex.
Her family remembers her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Joan will be remembered fondly by her family and friends as being a caring, loving woman who was always willing to start a conversation with anyone and invite them to come and be a part of her family. There are no strangers to the Turner family, especially to Joan.
Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 411 Turner Street, Clearwater, Florida 33756.
The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 from 10-11 AM at First United Methodist Church, 411 Turner Street, Clearwater. A Celebration of her life will be at 11 AM immediately following the visitation. Burial will follow at Clearwater Cemetery. Rev. Daphne Johnson will be officiating. Such a shock to get the phone call that she was gone. She contributed so much to her family, the civic groups she loved, our city of Clearwater. She was so sweet to Kim and I. Praying that God will bless the Turner family as you live life without her but you will always have your memories.
