John Andrew Glickman

John passed away at home in peace after battling a very aggressive cancer June 30, 2020.
Born in NYC to Majorie and Martin Glickman, Brother to Elizabeth, David and Nancy. He was Father to Jackie and Lori and Grandfather  to Jenna, Christopher and Conner. He was so proud of them.  He was  like a brother to Antonia and enjoyed  his relationships with her children Jeffrey, Cessa  as well as his relationships with his Godchildren Claudia, David L and David C. He was also an Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Loving husband and best friend to Esther.
John grew up in New Rochelle with his loving family who supported him in all his crazy endeavors. John enjoyed playing hockey and was a star on his hockey team. He enjoyed snow and water skiing with his family. He loved working on cars.
He joined the US Army and became a Warrant Officer, flying helicopters. He served his time in Vietnam based out of Camp Enari with the 4th Infantry Division, 704 Maintenance Battalion, Company E. He shared stories of how he would fly to recover helicopters and one scary time when he actually crashed a Huey in the jungles of Pleiku.  John still kept in touch with a few friends that he went to Flight school with.  He was a long standing member of the American Legion and Suncoast Corvette Club and St. Petersburg Astronomy Club. Received his Bachelor of Religious Education with the St. Petersburg Theological Seminary.
In 1974, John owned the Mobil Gas Station, in Nyack, NY, where he met Esther, the person who he would spend the next 45+ years with. A beautiful courtship began and marriage happened in 1979.  During his life, John, “Fast and Furious” as we loved to call him, enjoyed many hobbies. With Corvettes always at the top of his list, he also taught himself how to build telescopes, BIG telescopes; he became a master builder at a Plastic company; he went skydiving, he loved woodworking and built many things at his home,  drove very fast motorcycles, enjoyed talking religion and had many more interests but his last love was riding his bikes along the Pinellas Trail. One day he rode 52 miles, finished and said “I don’t have to do that again.”  He had many friends who loved him, loved his wisdom and “crusty but soft-hearted” sense of humor. He loved and was loved. Now all his questions will be answered.
He leaves behind so many memories, and we can’t imagine a world without the Glickmonster, as he was lovingly called by his closest friend.
Ceremonies to honor John’s military service will take place at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Tuesday July 21st, 2020  at 10:00 AM.  The US Army Funeral Honors Team will render their final salute and Pastor John Phipps will officiate.
