Curtiss, John A., 88, from Tampa and formerly from Garrett Park, MD, died November 1, 2014.
He served as a combat infantryman during WWII in the Southwest Pacific Theater where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He graduated from the Univ. of Maryland and Harvard Law School (1953) and moved his family to Tampa. He joined the law firm of Macfarlane, Ferguson, Allison and Kelly and practiced business law with that firm for 31 years. He was a former member of the Tampa Yacht Club, the University Club and the Rotary Club.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Laura; his three sons, Clifton, Stephen (Patricia) and Mark (Julie); his daughter, Cindy (Patrick) Shea; and eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
John’s passion was building and flying radio controlled model aircraft. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday November 5, 2014 at South Tampa Fellowship, Davis Islands Campus, 97 Biscayne Avenue. A graveside service will be presented at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
