John H. Janney, Jr., 82 years of age, suddenly went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 24th at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, FL, after a short illness. John was born on June 8 th , 1941, in Charleroi, PA, to the late John and Stella Janney. He is survived by the love of his life, Carol, and two children, JoAnne Scott (Greg) and Stephen Jefferies (Victoria), four grandchildren, Destiny, Andrew, Grace and Majd, as well as brothers Ronald (Christine) and Ray Janney.
Upon graduating from high school in Donora, PA, John joined the Navy where he served in the Navy Air for a total of six years, the last two being in the reserves. For more than two years of his active duty time, he was deployed internationally. During the Cuban missile crisis, he was flying above the Russian ships that were approaching Cuba. After receiving his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, John moved to St. Petersburg. He attended St. Petersburg Junior College and Pinellas Vocational Technical Institute.
John was an active member of Calvary Church, Clearwater, and the Life in the Word Life Group. He retired from Honeywell Aerospace in Clearwater after 33 years of employment there as first a technician and then a Test Equipment Engineer. John was proud of his contribution to the Space Program as well as other military projects. Since retirement he and his wife have been active members of the Honeywell Minnregs, an association of primarily retired Honeywellers.
John loved to play golf, fish, and was an accomplished woodworker. In recent years he mentored his daughter in wood turning and spent many hours turning beautiful bowls, candle holders and other things on the lathe. He could fix most anything and his garage showed it with his collection of tools, plumbing supplies, and electrical supplies. John was generous with his time and knowledge; anything anyone needed, they could come to him and usually he could supply it or drop everything to go help them. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather devoted to his Savior, his family and his friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the X150 program through Calvary Church.
Carol,
We were beyond saddened to hear of John’s passing. It’s hard to even know what to say about him. When my twins were babies, he would come to see them in their play pen while we mowed the lawn. He helped us so many times over the past 35 years. If we didn’t know something, we’d say “let’s ask John”. I don’t think I have ever met a more loving, interesting and talented man as John.
He was certainly a mainstay on my street and in my heart, I will be forever grateful for having met him.
LeAnne (Gerhart) And Jack Panfili
I am so very sorry to hear about John. He was a long time friend, fishing buddy, and co-worker at Honeywell. I will truly miss him. My deepest condolences to his family.
