John Thomas Schamante, beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and loyal friend, passed away at home on May 27, 2025, just one day before his 78th birthday. Born in Ferndale, Michigan, to Thomas Gaeton and Jean Dora (Hobart) Schamante, John’s life was deeply rooted in the values of family, hard work, and integrity.
John’s early years were marked by a spirited sense of adventure—a bold energy that shaped every chapter of his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era, developing a profound sense of duty and discipline that remained with him always. After his service, John built a long and respected career as a commercial painter—an honest, hands-on trade through which he expressed creativity and care, always working with purpose and providing for those he loved most.
In 2003, John married the love of his life, Cheri Lee Reinhardt, in Las Vegas, Nevada—a city as vibrant and bold as their unbreakable bond. Their love story spanned 33 unforgettable years filled with laughter, devotion, and countless shared adventures, including 21 as husband and wife. John cherished Cheri above all else—and made sure the world knew it.
A true original, John was known for his storytelling, quick wit, and unmistakable presence. He was a “dirty biker” with a heart of gold—just as at home on his Harley as he was in the company of those he loved. Whether tearing up a bowling lane, chasing the perfect shot on the golf course, or sharing a laugh around a fire, John lived boldly, loved deeply, and made every moment count.
He was a devoted father figure to Jesse, Joey, Sabrina, and Johnny, and a proud grandfather to Valerie, Amber, Airika, Ashley, Aimee, Liam, Kayson, Emilyn, Logan, Austyn, and Zane. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart, bringing him unique joy and pride.
John leaves behind a legacy of bold love, unwavering loyalty, and countless unforgettable memories. He is survived by his beloved wife Cheri, his children and grandchildren, and a wide circle of friends and extended family who will carry his spirit forward.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on June 28, 2025, at Veterans Funeral Care. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM. All who knew John are welcome to come share stories, laughter, and memories in honor of a life lived to the fullest.
Rest easy, John. Your ride may be over, but your spirit lives on in every road we travel.
“Glad you got to see me again…” –John

I don’t know who wrote the message above but it was beautifully done. I’m so very sorry for your loss.
My mom and John were very close friends in their younger years. They met when my mom was pregnant with me, she was 16. She named him as my godfather. I have nothing but good memories of John. He was a safe place for me. My mother and I are sad to learn of his passing, but happy to learn he lived a full life full of love.
