John William Boughton, Jr.


John William Boughton, Jr. of 18 Country Meadows Boulevard, Plant City, Florida, passed away on December 5, 2018 at age 96.  He was born on June 4, 1922 in his Parents’ home at 28 Lawnridge Avenue, Albany, New York.  John was the son of John William Boughton and Georgia Rose Boughton (Stoker).  He is a graduate of Milne High School, Albany, New York.  John followed in the footsteps of his Father and Grandfather by going to work for the New York Central Railroad where they both worked as Engineers.  He started there in 1941 as an electrician apprentice for locomotive heavy repair in West Albany.  It turned out to be a 41-year career when he retired in 1982 as Director of Locomotive Heavy Repairs in Altoona, Pa. with Conrail.

In February 1942, John married Jean Juanita Layman.  They enjoyed life together until she passed away in July of 1998. 56 years of marriage only interrupted in 1944 by World War II.  John entered the army in May of 1944.  He landed in France in the city of Nance 29 days after D-Day.  He was assigned to the A Company, 35th Division, 320th Infantry Regiment.  He joined his unit in time to advance into what became known as “the Battle of the Bulge”.  The heavy fighting continued all the way to the Elbe River.  John was decorated with the World War II Victory medal, the American Campaign Medal, the EAME Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  John received his Honorable Discharge in April of 1946.

In March of 2000, John married the second love of his life, Dottie Albers.  They enjoyed life together for several years.

John is predeceased by his father, John William Boughton, Mother, Georgia Rose Boughton, brother Harry Boughton, sisters Helen Smith and Edith Hoover, wives Jean and Dottie and grandson, Jason Maddox.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda J. Maddox, son, John William Boughton III and Cindy Willis, son-in-law, Gary Maddox, step sons Bill and Chuck Albers, stepdaughter, Joan Knoebel, eight grandchildren and fourteen Great Grandchildren.

A Service with Military Honors has been scheduled for 2:00PM on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513.
