Jon S. Thayer, 74, passed away following a respiratory Failure, coronary heart disease & encephalopathy, on June 9, 2024, at the HCA Florida Bayonet Point hospital in Hudson, FL. Born on March 24, 1950, in Providence, Rhode Island, to his late parents Kenneth Thayer and Dorothea Wiljakina.
Jon valiantly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. His commitment to his country was a significant part of his life and shaped many of his values and principles. Professionally, Jon spent the majority of his career in sales, specializing in both residential and commercial waste management, equipment and vehicles used for recycling and waste.
Jon married Deborah Weiss on October 17, 1992, at St. Giles Church. Their marriage was a partnership of love and mutual respect, lasting over 36 years. Jon was a family man at heart, deeply loved by his wife Deborah; daughter Maria Lenee Thayer; son Jason S. Weiss; sisters Nancy Spears and Amy Hodges, along with her husband Jeff. His joy was multiplied by his 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, who will miss his guidance and affection.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Mark Thayer, sister Betsy Minore, and grandson Joshua Weiss and some extended family of grandparents, aunts and uncles.
Jon will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and dear friend.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor at Veterans Funeral Care on Saturday, July 13th, 2024 at 11AM.
