Joseph Emile Douin, 74, passed away on November 20, 2019 at Sturgill Hospice Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Augusta, Maine on October 7, 1945, a son of Robert L. and Hermance (Godbout) Douin. He grew up and went to school in Augusta, Starks, and Madison, Maine. He entered the United States Navy, where he spent 3 years traveling. On December 20, 1980 he married Sharon Bradley.
Together with his wife, he owned and operated Joseph Douin Painting in Spring Hill, Florida for much of his life. Joe was known for his meticulous craftmanship, attention to detail, and incredibly strong work ethic. During his younger years he enjoyed hunting with his family in Maine and growing large vegetable and fruit gardens. After retiring in Maine for a short time, he happily returned to the warmth of Spring Hill for the remainder of his retirement. Joe spent hours each day in his yard and always took great pride in having the most well-maintained yard and beautiful blooming flowers and fruit trees. He could usually be found on his back porch masterfully completing each day’s crossword puzzle, spending time with family and friends, and reading westerns. He also loved playing cribbage and even in his last weeks with declining health, he still managed to beat Sharon in many games. You could always depend on Joe to tell you all about the weather no matter where you lived, whether you wanted to know or not. He loved jelly beans, his dog Missy, and the New England Patriots. More than anything, he loved his family.
He was predeceased by his parents; grandson, Joshua Douin; four brothers, Robert, Laurent, Roger and George Douin; two sisters, Gloria Hobert and Christine Nelson; parents in law, Dorothy and Leighton Bradley; and sister in law, Frances Taylor.

The family would like to thank Dr Malhotra and the kind caregivers at Florida Cancer Specialists, Bayfront Health Hospital, and Sturgill Hospice Care Center for their loving care and support. A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM on November 23rd, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his flower gardens and fruit trees.
