Joseph Moccio, 90, was born on March 7, 1925 in Hamden, Connecticut to John Anthony Moccio and Camilla Moccio. He passed away on November 23, 2015 at Suncoast Hospice Mid-Pinellas Care Center in Pinellas Park, Florida. He is survived by his loving wife, Wilma Moccio (Gathan), daughter Jeanne Blymier and son-in-law Doug Blymier; son John Moccio, daughter-in-law Rebecca Moccio, and 2 grandchildren, Jessica Blymier and Adam Moccio.
Joseph entered the Army on April 30, 1945 at Camp Kearns, Utah and retired after 20 years of service as an E-6 or Technical Sergeant. After being honorably discharged by the Army he joined the United States Air Force on November 10, 1950 until his retirement on July 1, 1967. Among his decorations are two Air Force Good Conduct Medals, five Army Good Conduct Awards, the World War II Victory Medal, one Army of Occupation Medal with a Berlin Airlift device, two National Defense Service Medals, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Joseph’s service took him through the European Theater of Operation from February 3, 1946 to November 8, 1948; Bermuda from July 3, 1953 to September of 1955; and Labrador from August 11, 1959 to July 9, 1960.
A memorial service with military honors will occur on March 7, 2016 at 12:45 at Bay Pines National Cemetery. The MacDill Air Force Honor Guard will be conducting military honors.
