Juan “John” Carlos Gaset

Juan “John” Carlos Gaset, 65, passed away December 6, 2021, holding the hand of his beloved wife and surrounded by his children.

A celebration of life will be held on January 8, 2022. Please see below for details.

John is predeceased by his parents, Carlos and Aleida Gaset, and brother, Jorge. John is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Gaset, children, John (Kate), Rose (Kirby) Johnson, and David (Kaitlin), five grandchildren, Harvey, Ford, Marshall, Jade, and Emmitt, and siblings, Carlos, Aleida, and Maria Lynch.

John was born in Havana, Cuba on November 3, 1956. He was he the third of five children.

In 1962, at the age of 6, John migrated to the United States by himself, meeting his Tia Bebe in Miami, FL. Once the rest of his family migrated, they reunited and settled down in New Jersey. John never forgot his Cuban roots, but was very proud to be an American citizen, something he never took for granted.

John graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Montclair, NJ. After high school, he studied computer science and programing at Union County Technical School.

At age 18, John met Peggy while she was working in a grocery store. They married in 1979 and had their first son, John, in Trenton, NJ.

In 1987, work brought the family to Boston, MA, where they welcomed John’s daughter, Rose.

Work moved the family again, when in 1989 they moved to Orlando, FL, where they would settle down and complete their family with another son, David.

Most recently John and Peggy resided in Safety Harbor, FL.

John had a very successful career in computer sales and technology.  He was a programmer, sales director, and vice president for numerous startups. He excelled in his career, took pride in his work, and cared deeply about each company he worked for.

John loved being with his family. He was very involved in Boy Scouts and took his family on many camping trips and outdoor-themed vacations. He loved being outside and living close to the water.  His family and friends hold countless memories of him boating and participating in water sports.  He attended all his children’s soccer games, track meets, dance recitals, band performances, and countless other extracurricular activities, all while instilling valuable life lessons in each of them.

John loved music and took great pleasure in making his kids listen to smooth jazz, the Doobie Brothers, Earth Wind Fire, and the Eagles.

John’s grandchildren were perhaps his greatest joy. He made a point to say “Grandpa loves you” each time he was with them.

John will be remembered for his strong character, work ethic, and above all else, unwavering devotion to his wife and family, always putting them above all else.

John was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2019, and bravely endured all that comes with battling cancer. He left his family a letter stressing the importance of being screened for cancer – “Please do not wait. Get yourself checked out. If not for yourself, do it for your loved ones.”

The family requests that you pay tribute to John by donating to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, see www.pancan.org/honormemorial-gifts for more details. Their mission is to take bold action to improve the lives of everyone impacted by pancreatic cancer by advancing scientific research, building community, sharing knowledge, and advocating for patients.

A beloved husband, father, and brother. Gone too soon. He will be missed.
