Katherine (Lenz) Doney, 93, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Saratoga Springs, NY, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Evergreen Manor in Safety Harbor, FL after a brief illness.
Born on September 21, 1921 in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lillian (Fones) Lenz and the youngest of four children.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hamilton V. Doney, Sr.; son, Hamilton V. Doney, Jr. of Metairie, LA; two brothers, Herman Lenz of Brooklyn, NY and Charles Lenz of Saratoga Springs; sister, Evelyn DeMarinis of Saratoga Springs; and grandson, Hamilton V. Doney, III of Metairie.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Carol (Andy) Lopreato; granddaughter, Melissa Lopreato, all of Clearwater; and several nieces and nephews.
“Kay” was an employee of Mother Goldsmith’s restaurant in Saratoga for many years before moving to Melbourne, FL in 1960. She retired from Harris Semiconductor in Palm Bay, FL and relocated to Clearwater in 1996 where she resided at On Top of the World condos. She was Catholic and in 2013, at 92 years old, she was Baptized, Confirmed, and received her first Holy Communion at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church in Safety Harbor where she attended Mass every Saturday afternoon. She enjoyed playing Bingo, painting, cross-stitching photographs of Saratoga Springs landmarks, jigsaw and word-find puzzles.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church with Father Len Piotrowski, 2405 Philippe Parkway, Safety Harbor, FL 34695.

Kay was a SUPER LADY and she will be very much missed.
She had a quick wit and it was delightful to know her and be with her.

Sad for your loss. I remember Aunt Kate always smiling, kind. Watching the card games at Grandma Lenz’s house as a kid. Good memories. And now she lives forever in glory with our Lord.

Carol, Andy and Melissa…my heart is sad for you because, even though you knew this was coming, now it is real. Yes, mom is now with our wonderful God and with your dad and all her family….but saying goodbye hurts, so you will continue to be in my prayers. I loved Kate and we bonded the minute I met her, kind of like you and I did Carol She and your Uncle Herman were so much alike. They both had marshmallow hearts and would give you the shirt off their back. Kate was a pistol (as you so often said) and feisty and fun. Of course, she had her moments, as we all do….but the scale was tipped in the balance of loving her. Treasure the moments when she comes into your thoughts and your heart, as those will be precious times she will still be with you. Our Spirit God will see to that. Love you! Aunt.

Grief leaves us without words to cover. But Kay has her pencil and puzzle book with her, ensuring everyone around her has a smile in answer to hers.
