Kathryn “Kathy” Kaye, age 64, of Palm Harbor, Florida, died Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in her home surrounded by her wife and cats after a valiant battle with ALS.
Kathy was born on January 6, 1959, in St. Pete, Florida, to Ron Rawls and Kate Henson, grew up in the Tampa Bay area with her three siblings. Kathy lived her entire life in Tampa Bay, raising her family, and establishing two careers, and ultimately celebrating 20 years of love with her wife, Cindy Tremaine.
Kathy graduated from Clearwater High School, and attended the University of South Florida, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, and a Master’s Degree in Variable Exceptionalities. She was a special educator and worked at Bayside High School and Dunedin High School in her 22-year career. Co-workers remember Kathy as exceptional at her challenging job, making a difference in the lives of many students. She retired in June 2020, and become a full-time artist.
Kathy was an accomplished artist in multiple mediums, stained glass being her favorite. She was brilliant in her ability to coordinate colors and her attention to detail was unsurpassed. Her beautiful works of art will inspire us all for years. Her gentle nature made her a compassionate and dedicated teacher to those around her who wanted to be as accomplished in their art. She was co-founder of Moonstar Glass and Sun Mosaics with her wife, Cindy.
Along with her quiet calm disposition, Kathy had a love for bold colors, especially purple, and loved wearing bright clothes with eye-catching accessories. She was an avid gamer and “Zelda” was her favorite.
Kathy is survived by her wife, Cindy Tremaine, her mother, Kate Henson, her children, Zac (Megan) Krolman and Alexx Krolman, granddaughter, Hazel, her siblings Steve Rawls, Linda Chase and Susan Schilke, in-laws, nieces and nephews, and her cats. Her granddaughter, Hazel, was her heart’s delight.
She was predeceased by her firstborn, Max.
