Mr. Kermitt P. Smith Sr., 84, (formerly of Syracuse, NY) was born in Mims, Florida, September 27, 1931) to the late James & Louella (Campbell) Smith Sr. Kermitt entered in rest on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa, Florida, surrounded by his family. Kermitt served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) 1952-1966 and saw combat in the Vietnam War from 1965-1966. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corp. Kermitt worked at Carrier Corporation and was a long distance truck driver for many years until his retirement.
Kermitt was predeceased by his brothers, John William (JW), James Jr.; Joe, and one sister Joyce (Wilson) Pugh. Kermitt is survived by his former wife Bessie Person, of Virginia; one sister Wilma (Harry) Green of Washington State; four sons: Kermite Bristow of Jacksonville, FL; Alonso Person (Debra) and Ronald Smith of Syracuse, NY; and Kermitt Smith, Jr. of Albany, NY; and one daughter, Valerie Orr of Syracuse, NY; his Senior Lunch Program friends in Titusville, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grand children, great-grand children, and great-great grand children.

Kermitt’s final resting place will be in the Onondaga County Veteran’s Cemetery.
