Maria Buso (“Magui” to her Friends and Family) passed away peacefully on August 19 at Safety Harbor Senior Living. She was accompanied by her loving daughter Catherine Buso, her granddaughter Nicole and her caregiver Myrna.
Magui was born in the town of Rio Blanco in Puerto Rico, but as a child her family moved to the Rio Piedras area of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Magui was the fourth born of seven children by her parents, Alejandro Lopez and Maria Luisa Lopez.
Magui attended high school and business school in San Juan and worked as a Secretary for the U.S. Federal Government. On November 30, 1946 she married Eduardo Buso. Eduardo had served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army in WWII and in 1948 she moved with him to Boston, MA while he pursued his medical studies at Boston University Medical School, graduating in 1952.
Over the span of her life, Magui and Eduardo lived in Massachusetts, West Virginia, Illinois, and California and when Eduardo retired they returned to Puerto Rico and later moved to Florida. Magui loved sports and had a passion for tennis and bowling, sports she pursued for many years. She was also an avid traveler, accompanying her husband, friends and family in travels throughout Europe, Latin America and the Far East.
Most importantly, Magui will be always be fondly remembered as a loving, devoted and caring spouse and mother who unselfishly always thought of others before herself. At various times she was also a caregiver for her aging parents, her parents in law, as well as several of her siblings as they battled debilitating diseases. Her loving commitment to her spouse, children and family gained the admiration and love of all who ever knew her.
Magui will be interred at the Sarasota National Cemetery alongside the grave of her husband, Lt. Col. Eduardo Buso (USA, Ret). She is survived by her children, Eduardo, Raul and Catherine, daughters in law Nidza and Angelika, her sisters Raquel and Elsa and her grandchildren Eduardo Javier, Nicole, Raul David, Vanessa, Danielle and Francisco.
