artin Joseph Jones was born on December 15, 1930 to Ira and Mary (Branan) Jones in Atlanta, Georgia. He passed away on August 30, 2017 at his home in Mulberry, Florida under the care of Good Shepherd Hospice.
Survivors
Martin is survived by his son Martin Jones, Jr. (Tracy) of Lakeland, Florida; daughters Julie Groom (Jeremy) of Eustis, Florida, Rebecca Hanes of Clermont, Florida, Jeannie Coleman (Ronald) of Satsuma, Florida; grandchildren Mark Coleman, Christopher Coleman, Jeffrey Coleman, Sara Jones, Emily Jones, Jessica Logan, Scott Hanes, Christa Hanes, Julia Groves, Olivia Hanes, Grace Hanes, Erica Gumpper, Donald Gumpper Jr., Kodie Carpenter, Jillian Groom and 21 great-grandchildren.
Awards and Decorations
Martin entered service in the United States Air Force on January 20, 1948 in Marietta, Georgia and was honorably discharged on July 25, 1956 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a flight mechanic. At the time of his discharge he was qualified to wear the Air Force Good Conduct Award and the German Occupation Medal with Berlin device on his uniform. His last duty assignment was with Flight “A” 4th Air Rescue Squadron based out of Hamilton Air Force Base in California.
Services
A graveside service with military honors provided by the United States Air Force will take place at Florida National Cemetery on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm. The Patriot Guard Riders of Florida have been invited by the family.
