Mary Ruth Johnson


Mary Ruth Johnson, 84, of Dunedin, Florida passed away at 4:05 pm Thursday March 24, 2022 at Suncoast Hospice. She was born September 27, 1935 in Macomb, Illinois to Harley and Pauline Arnold Grainger.  She married Donald R Johnson on March 2, 1957. She was a homemaker and helped at the Heritage Inn restaurant in Lincoln, Il.  She sold Sarah Coventry Jewelry, World Book Encyclopedias and Christmas Around the World.  Mary loved to do ceramics, knit, crochet, play bingo, and socialize with her many friends.  She made Raggedy Ann dolls and afghans for her children, grand and great grand children.  She was involved in her children’s sports and then her grandchildren’s sports. Retiring in Florida in 1999, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and was involved in many activities in her mobile home park. Mary loved her children first foremost and was always very giving to others.  She always put others above herself.  She loved playing cards with her family.  She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Johnson, mother Pauline Grainger and father Harley Grainger. She is survived by her children, Debra Peterson (Kevin) Holiday Fl, daughters, Carly Rispoli (Tony) Groveland, Fl and Courtney Beasley (Shaun) Clearwater, Fl Richard Johnson Lincoln, Il and Daughter Ashley Johnson, Lincoln, Il, Barb Monkman (Thomas) Clearwater,Fl. and son, James Monkman, Clearwater, Fl.  Douglas Johnson, Dunedin, Fl.  Denise Etcheson, Lincoln, Il and children Nichole Etcheson, Lincoln, Il, Cory Etcheson, (Taylor) Broadwell, Il., Amanda Etcheson, Lincoln, Il. and Noah Ward, Lincoln, Il. Mary also has great grandchildren, Tyler Rispoli, Kayden Bone, Savannah Beasley, Lilliana Beasley, Allison Etcheson, Kynlie Bone, and Emma Rispoli. Mary’s siblings are Robert Grainger of Marietta, Il., Elaine Walden of Peoria, Il. and Kenneth Grainger (MaryJo) for Chillicothe, Il. Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday April 3rd, 2022 from 1:30 to 4:30 at Lake Highlander Club House.  Darlene Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Lincoln, Il. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Suncoast Hospice and/or The American Cancer Society.
