Melvin C. Gastel, age 97, of Clearwater, FL, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, in Clearwater. Born on March 23, 1927, Melvin lived a long, fulfilling life marked by dedication to his family, work, and country.
On June 23, 1945, Melvin married Anna May Toda in Pittsburgh, PA. Together, they shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love and companionship, until Anna’s passing. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Anna May (Toda) Gastel and his daughter Darlene Wilson.
Melvin is survived by his son, Melvin J. Gastel and his wife Kim (PA); his daughters, Diane Parenti (PA), Debbie Starrett and her husband Bob (Clearwater), and Denise Walk and her husband Larry (PA). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Melvin worked as an electrician for General Electric and Consol Coal, showcasing his skill and dedication. He lived in Pennsylvania, Texas, and Florida, making cherished memories and lifelong friends in each place. His interests and hobbies included bodywork on cars, especially Volkswagens, as well as woodworking and gardening.
One of Melvin’s proudest achievements was his service in the Navy during World War II, where he served on the LST 307 boat. His experiences as a veteran were a significant part of his life, and he proudly carried the legacy of his service.
Known for his loving smile and friendly waves to everyone he met, Melvin’s kindness and warmth will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Melvin’s legacy of strength, compassion, and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. We thank God for every day we had with our beloved Melvin and his passion for life and family.
Services will be held in his honor at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies- 1158 Morgan Rd, Bridgeville, PA 15017 on Friday, July 19th, 2024 at 2:30 PM.
