Mildred “Trudy” Welch, 80, of Clearwater, FL and Norfolk, VA, passed away on January 3, 2022, to eternal peace. Born in Norfolk, VA, on December 15, 1941, she was the daughter of Evelyn Fletcher and Phillip Thatch.
Mildred, or Trudy as her friends called her, was a beloved mother, daughter, grand-daughter, sister, wife, and friend. She spent more than 30 years in the restaurant business as a hard-working bartender where she was a problem-solver and good listener to all. She then moved to Clearwater to be near her daughter, Cheryle, and family.
Mildred was a strong, positive force who possessed an exceptionally large heart and extraordinary kindness – always helping others, no matter where she was. Everyone looked for her guidance and advice. But if you did not want to know the truth about something, don’t ask because she would tell you exactly like it is, for sure. However, her goal was to always help you be in a better place. She had a profound sense of humor and could find just about anything to laugh about.
Mildred loved a good “Bingo” game, shopping, watching stories and being with family and friends. She especially cherished time spent with her daughter. Mildred’s love and commitment to her family was what she lived for and treasured most.
Mildred is survived by her husband, Charles Welch, her daughter Cheryle Tuttle (Tim), and family, of Safety Harbor, FL, her son Brady Rogers and family of Marstons Mills, MA, her Brother Phillip Thatch of Newport News, VA, her sister, Polly Stevens of Suffolk, VA, her special cousins Lou Goodwin of Clearwater, FL and Tom and Karen Liddle of Madison, AL, among many others and many special friends.
A special Thank You goes to her caregivers, Juana and Nada from Westchester Gardens, who helped make her days much more cheerful the past few years.
Memorial Service 11:00 AM, Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Veterans Funeral Care, 830 N. Belcher Road, Clearwater, FL 33765

I’m so sorry about your mom, Cheryle. I know firsthand how difficult this loss is . I’m so grateful I got the opportunity to meet her, she was such an incredibly sweet , fun and kind woman, just like her daughter. I wish I had words to take away the pain and emptiness . All I can say is keep talking to her, she is listening . Losing my mom was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through in life and I’m sorry you are now having to endure this great loss.
