Donrue “Wever” Voelker May 30, 1930 ~ February 19, 2019
Donrue Wever Voelker passed away peacefully on February 19th, 2019 after spending nearly all of her 88 years in Pinellas County. She made her own success, first as a Journalist graduate from the University of Florida and then as a U.S. Marine Corps Captain, where she served her country in the 1950’s. After retiring from the Marines, Donrue went on to enjoy a rewarding career in real estate. She was elected President of the Treasure Island Yacht and Tennis Club Condominium One for 10 years, of which she was a member, resident and avid tennis player for many years. When she was not cheering on her beloved Florida Gators at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, you could find her rooting for her other love – the New York Yankees. Her surviving family, friends and colleagues will sorely miss her. Her loving and generous spirit lives on in all those who knew her.
In honor of her military service, she will be laid to rest at Bay Pines National Cemetery. Scheduling information is pending at this time.
Additional obituary and tribute details will be updated here as soon as those details are finalized with her family. Please check back here daily for the most current information.
Rest In Peace Donrue. You will be missed!
Donrue was ahead of her time, one of the strongest women I have known. She was loved and will be missed!
The minute I met Donrue, it was an instant connection! Not only were we big Gator fans, but Florida folks as well. Donrue was always very interested in whether my wife had dressed me on any given day and was always complimentary of what I was wearing, even at the end of a day! I will always be tied to Donrue in so many ways, but in the simplest terms, she was a true lady through and through and enjoyed everyday to the fullest. I will miss you and you will never be forgotten! Warm Regards, Tom
I miss you grand lady but know you are in a better place of pain -free Peace ,Joy & Love !
We have heard many stories about Donrue through the eyes of her niece, Debbie, our dear friend. She made an extraordinary contribution to her country & above all else her family. Although we didn’t have a chance to meet, we hold you & these memories with the utmost respect & honor. Rest In Peace.
R.I.P Donrue you were a very special lady to me always complimenting me on kali and how she will go
Places.I know you will watch over her
I met my Aunt Donrue through my forever friend, her niece Debbie Lane. We would pick her up and go to holiday family gatherings at Peggy’s, Debbie’s sister’s home. It has truly been an honor to be invited and share holidays with their family. As her health failed Deb was always there for her, sometime up to 3 days a week. She would always call when she returned home to let me know how she was doing. She loved my home made fudge, and Deb would always take her some when i made it.God Bless her family in this time of grief. God has wrapped you all in his arms to help your breaking hearts. and Aunt Donrue, make sure St. Peter leaves those golden gates open for me as i will be carrying a pan of fudge for you! Till we meet again….
Rest in Peace Donrue, it hard to say goodbye to a dear friend! You will always be in our hearts.
Over the years I have wondered about those that I was stationed with at Parris Island, South Carolina. I so loved the Marine Corps and those that I worked with. I of course lost contact with many. At times I scan the internet looking. I was going through papers and found my Veterans ID Card and it was signed by Caption Donrue Weaver. I do wish I would have located her years ago. She was a great example for all of us younger ones that served under her. Outstanding lady. I’m sure she will be missed by family and friends.
My prayers are with all of you.
