Nancy M. Cosmos

Nancy Cosmos, 76 of Dunedin, FL was born March 23, 1945 in Cleveland Ohio, and passed away August
22, 2021 after a brief stay at Suncoast Hospice Care Center. Nancy is survived by her sister, Karen
Duffey; nephew, David Arthurs Jr.; nieces Amy (Tim) Coan, Rebecca (Jimmy) Garcia, Elizabeth Cosmos,
Karen Cosmos, and Linda Batman, along with many grandnieces and grandnephews. Those who knew
Nancy knew that she dedicated her life to her family and so many dear friends. She had a positive
attitude, a kind heart, an infectious smile, and gave the best hugs.
Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 22 years, Thomas A. Cosmos and her parents
Alma and Gilbert L. Patch.
Nancy was always very athletic and loved all sports starting as a young child and even into her
retirement. In high school, in the 1950s, Nancy once got to be the kicker on the Upper Arlington, OH
high school football team. She graduated high school from Rocky River High in Ohio and then attended
college at The Ohio State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work. Golf
was always her first love and in college she competed on The OSU Varsity Women’s Golf Team. She was
retroactively awarded an athletic letter in golf some 50 years later.
After a brief stint working for the Detroit Social Security office, Nancy decided an office job was not for
her. She then began a long and successful career managing and buying for the golf pro shops at Oakland
Hills Country Club in Birmingham, MI. There she met the love of her life and future husband, Tom. She
then went on to Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, FL and finished her career at Saddlebrook Resort in
Wesley Chapel, FL. During her retirement Nancy enjoyed working for Publix Super Market in Customer
Service and in the back office.
Nancy was a member of the P.G.A., the Florida State Golf Association, and the Ohio State University
Alumni Association. She was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Tarpon Springs, FL,
where she volunteered in the Soup Kitchen.
Nancy had great times traveling throughout the U.S. and abroad with her husband Tom and, after he
passed, with her many dear girlfriends. She enjoyed watching sports, especially golf, OSU Football and
the Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey games. Nancy was a wine connoisseur, master on the grill and expert
sous chef to her husband. She enjoyed fine dining, golf outings, playing bridge and canasta and
spending time with friends and family. Nancy especially loved visiting her sister, Karen, and the rest of
her family for extended periods during the summers and holidays, where many front porch happy hours,
games, laughter, puzzling and story-telling occurred. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and
loved her.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation in Nancy’s memory to St. Nicholas Greek
Orthodox Cathedral, 17 E. Tarpon Ave., Tarpon Springs, FL 34689; or to Suncoast Hospice at
suncoasthospice.org.
The funeral service and burial will be private. Please share a memory or a condolence below.
