Nicholas Cecil Mazza, age 92, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away on April 8th, 2024 at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Linden, NJ on June 15th, 1932 to his loving parents, Peter and Geraldine Theresa Mazza. Nick married Molly Mary Mazza on April 27th, 1957 at St. Anthony’s Church in Batavia, NY and they shared 66 years together. Nick had a long career working for the Florida department of transportation for 20 years before retiring, where he held numerous positions. He proudly served as a Corporal in the US Army and fought in the Korean War. He was also a devout Roman Catholic. Nick was born in Linden, New Jersey and moved to Batavia, New York as a child, and finally, him and his wife moved to St Petersburg, Florida in 1977. Nick was considered a miracle baby because at the age of three, he was dying of double pneumonia. His mother, Geraldine, prayed to Saint Cecilia to save him. He took the middle name Cecil in honor of this miracle. He also survived being struck by lightning along with five other people, including his son, Samuel. Nicholas loved playing the piano, organ, and accordion. He also loved cooking and was known for his scalloped potatoes and pizzelles. Nick loved writing and sharing passages from the Bible as well. Some of his proudest achievements were being married to his beloved wife, Molly, his four sons Christopher, Patrick, Samuel, and David. He loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids. He was a kind and generous soul to everyone he met. Nick is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Geraldine Theresa Mazza, three sisters and one brother. His survivors include his wife, Molly, his sons, Christopher, Patrick, Samuel, and David, as well as many grandkids and great-grandkids. His family would like to extend a special thank you to all his family and friends for all their support and love during this difficult time. They would also like to thank Generations at Home Health Care, Empath Health, and Moffitt Cancer Center. A celebration of life will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. where he will receive full military honors and a 21 gun salute.
