Norman Davis

Norman Davis Veterans Funeral Care

Norm was born on July 7, 1924 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was the second son of Vernie and Mamie (Collins) Davis. When Norm was 11 the family moved to Ferguson, Missouri, where Norm went to school, graduating from Ferguson High School. Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served as an infantry sergeant in the European theater of World War II. As part of his wartime service he earned the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. Following the war he returned to St. Louis, where he went to work for Kroger grocery stores and met Theo Brown. On September 17, 1949, he and Theo married, beginning a 43 year partnership and raising four children. Norm joined the McDonnell Aircraft company in 1953, beginning a 31 year career in data processing that saw him rise to become the manager of business applications programming for the McDonnell-Douglas Automation Company. He retired from McDonnell-Douglas in 1984 and retired to Sun City Florida where he could indulge his passion for golf every day. Following Theo’s death, Norm met and married Patricia Russell. This marriage would also last, Norm and Pat stayed together until Pat’s passing in 2014.

Norm was a lifelong athlete, playing American Legion baseball and becoming an avid golfer and bowler. His competitive streak extended to other games, and he could often be found shooting pool or playing cards with friends and family members.

Norm is survived by four children: Barbara Grindstaff, Cynthia Wasser, Bruce Davis (Lori), and Brenda Hahn (Mark), 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a brother: Duane Davis.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Theo (Brown) Davis and Patricia (Russell) Davis, a great grandchild, Joey Wasser, and siblings Russell Davis, Lois Bell, and Phyllis Johnston.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to any organization that supports American veterans and their families.
