Patrick J. McDermott


Patrick J. McDermott, grew up and lived in Hempstead and Bellmore on Long Island in New York. He passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at the age of 91.

Pat was a navy veteran having served in the Pacific on the Kwajaleinin the Marshall Islands. He was a recipient of a National Defense Service Medal.
In his single days, Pat was a competitive roller skater. While he skated with several women over the years, Mineola skating rink is also where he met his wife Trudy while she was a competitive skating coach there.

He was an avid woodworker and builder, working for Irwin Yacht and creating handmade items for friends and family, including the “time out chair” used by a number of his wayward grandchildren and even great-grandchildren today. Pat sang in many choirs throughout the years, including the Marion Male Chorus and St. Barnabas Church on Long Island, and the Holy Cross Choir, the Dunedin Community Choir, the International Choral and the Light of Christ Church choir.

He was beloved by his family and friends and well known as a kind man with a joke at the ready. him how he was and he would always tell you, “Terrible!” just to make you smile. Like many a good Irishman his favorite drink was Irish Creme. Later in life he even took up Irish Step Dancing which he did with a group of friends and his wife Trudy (even though she was German!)

He is predeceased by his wife and their daughter Katherine. He is survived by his sons Mark and Kevin and their wives Sharon and Joy, his daughter Tricia, 5 grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Killian, Tierney and Breanna, and 3 great-grandchildren, Noelle, Brielle, and Stella. is also survived by his sisters Mary and Carol. He will be missed.

A funeral mass will be held in his honor at Light of Christ Church, 2176 Marilyn St, Clearwater, FL 33765 on Saturday, May 25th at 830 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to one of the following: Fixers, Fiddlers & Fumblers Club, Light of Christ Church, or the International Chorale.
