I worked with Pete in the Clearwater Police Department, but more specifically, I served on the Executive Board of Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #10, when Pete was the President of the Union. Pete was a lion of a man who fought tirelessly for better wages and working conditions for his fellow police officers. Pete was full of vigor and determination, and he forced the police department’s command staff to treat officers fairly and equitably in matters of discipline. Pete was a trendsetter in the police labor movement at the time, and I will never forget his commitment to the cause. Pete took me under his wing as a young policeman and taught me the ins and outs of collective bargaining and the disciplinary process. I rose through the ranks of the Union’s Executive Board and was the Chief Labor Steward prior to becoming the Lodge President after Pete had retired. Although he was retired, Pete was always willing to take a phone call when I needed advice. He always remained committed to the well-being and fair treatment of his fellow officers. I am saddened to hear of Pete’s passing, but I know that he no longer suffers and is now free of all burdens and illness. I want to extend my most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Pete’s family…and especially to Janice (AKA: Jazz) who always stood by Pete and allowed him to do what he needed to do. He truly leaves behind a legacy from his days in the Clearwater Police Department. Rest in peace, old friend, I wish you fair winds and following seas…
