Peter Matthiessen, 80, died Friday, October 27, 2017, in his home from complications related to pancreatic cancer. In Hospice care for several weeks, Peter died peacefully.
Born in Wismar, Germany Peter moved with his family to New York, where he attended Fort Hamilton High School and New York City College. He served in the United States Army, worked for many years for Lufthansa German Airlines mostly in the air freight department and was president of Link America Airlines. Peter has been a Florida resident since 1993 coming from Lake Forest, Illinois. He loved to travel, was an avid reader and loved classical music.
Peter leaves his wife Ruth and daughter Stephanie, his brother Uwe and wife Tracy, his son Christopher, his son Kevin and wife Patricia, granddaughters Delaney and Phoebe, nephews Klaus Steinort and Bidi Steinort.
Donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice in Clearwater, Florida in lieu of flowers.
