Philip Greenstein

Philip Greenstein, 89, of Treasure Island, FL, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Menorah Manor nursing home in St. Petersburg.  He was born in New York, NY, and moved to Florida in 1963.  He moved to St. Petersburg in the mid 1970’s.

Philip served his country in the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Washington BB56 battleship.  He enjoyed his time in the US Navy.  Following his time the service, he became an Electronics Engineer.  He then decided at age 46 to begin taking classes at Stetson University College of Law.  He was an Attorney in St. Petersburg for many years.

Phil loved life and was well liked by everyone who knew him.  He loved to tell stories, some true and some embellished a little.  Making people laugh was his greatest pleasure.  In retirement, he was happiest in front of a slot machine.  In later years, he suffered with hearing loss and mobility issues, none of which matters sitting at a slot machine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles and Pauline Greenstein; and all of his brother and his sister.  He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Julie; sons, Douglas of Brooklyn, NY abd Steven of Lutz, FL; daughters, Doris Borowski of Baldwin, NY, Nancy Bannon of NH; stepdaughter, Rebecca Hayes of St. Petersburg, FL; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and friends.

Memorial Services with Military Honors will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Friday, May 20, 2016, at 1:30pm.  Anyone who would like to attend is welcome.

Phil loved kids and dogs, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity which helps children or animals.  Phil was especially fond of Special Olympics and the Humane Society.
