Richard Dean Foos, 83, of Largo, Florida, passed away at the BayCare Alliant Hospital in Dunedin, Florida, on June 12, 2019. He was born in Gallion, Ohio, and was married to his wife, Carol for over 61 years.
Richard went into the United States Navy when he was 18 years old and served from July 13, 1954 through June 4, 1958 as an Electronics Technician. He was on Sea Service for eighteen months of his total service and it was in the Navy was where Richard learned about electronics.
After leaving the service, he made a career as a Design Engineer in the Electronics Industry. He worked for Lockheed Martin on the Apache Helicopter. Richard could fix most any electrical problem for those he worked for and for his friends. Richard was also a tinkerer and was always working on and fixing a variety of items. He was a Board Member at the Caribbean Isle Mobile Home Village in Largo, Florida. One of his tasks was to take care of the electrical needs and he loved doing just that. He also made time to be a Volunteer with the Pinellas County Sheriffs Office.
Richard loved many things including his family, friends, dogs, swimming and ribs. One of his real joys was when he would load the family, all eight of them, into the family station wagon that was pulling a pop-up trailer. They traveled to many parts of the United States and visited forty states. On these trips, he did all of the driving until the boys finally got old enough to drive. It was Uncle Ralph and Rose Brugger that helped him fall in love with traveling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Edith Foos and his brothers, George and Eddie. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, Tim (Sharon), Rick, Bill and Chris; his, daughters, Marci (Jason) Nelmida and Wendy (Michael) Nagurne; nephew, Terry Foos who was greatly appreciated for the cider he brought to Richard; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many friends.
A Service with Military Honors will be conducted at 3:00PM on Wednesday, June 19, at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., St. Petersburg, Florida 33708.
Aunt Carol and Kids,
Im sorry to hear of Uncle Richard passing. I spoke to Devon, and she informed me. I wish I would have known that Richard & Carol was living close to Largo. I was just there in March and May this year. I would have liked to visit .
I worked with Dick at Lockheed Martin and he would always put a grin on my face with some silly little joke. Of course, I got to meet and know his family. Dick was a proud man and he was proud of his family. I use to love to hear Dick and Ralph talk about the good old days. They had some tales to tell. My favorite story was how they could run up and over a ladder before it fell to the ground. What a sight to see. Dick and Carol use to love to share their passion of Sqare Dancing. They had some fancy costumes too. They would travel in their RV to go to dances all over the U.S. I wish I could have been their to say Good Bye! I will cherish the Good Memories of Mr. Foos. My condolences to Carol and the family.
