Richard was an avid tennis player, runner, sail & power boater, pilot, historian, & traveled to more than 100 countries. But of his many life’s accomplishments, President of Hexagon Honeycomb Corporation takes top billing. Started with his partner, Duane Able, in 1969, with a small plant in Trenton, Ill. and a handful of employees. With grit and determination, they grew their successful business. And in 1990, they received the St. Louis Small Business Association Award for their outstanding business service. Several years later, they sold the company. Including three US manufacturing plants, more than 200 employees, corporate office in St. Louis, International office in Texas, & business throughout the world. But he never really retired, A&F Realty became his second business adventure and travel continued.
Richard’s family and his business family were always his priority. A former employee recently stated, “All the honeycomb employees thought highly of Rich as a ‘good guy and straightshooter’. In the employee world, there is no greater compliment”. One of his favorite sayings was “God gave us two ears and one mouth, to listen twice as much as we speak”. Richard will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him, for the love he shared and the exceptional life he led.
“Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds – and done a hundred things.”
A service in his honor will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery on Monday, March 31st, 2025, at 12:30 PM. In leu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the United Service Organizations (USO), and the Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
