Richard L. “Lynn” Johnson

Richard L “Lynn” Johnson Sr, 80, of Largo, FL passed away January 20, 2018.  He was born at Mound Park Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL to Kenneth E. and Katie Bell (Page) Johnson.  He was the sixth of seven children.  He spent his childhood years in St. Pete and Punta Gorda and later moved to Ruskin, FL.  He went to Wimauma High School and graduated in 1955.

While in high school he met his future wife.  Lynn married Emma Jean Cooper in June 1956.  In April of the following year their first son was born.  They would go on to have five more children…two boys and three girls.

In Dec 1962, Lynn went to work for Yocam Battery in Tampa.  He was hired as a sales rep for Pinellas County.  He would go on to win numerous salesman awards and broke the record for the most batteries sold in one week.  In 1976, he decided to venture out on his own and started Johnson Battery.  It can truly be said that he loved being in the battery business. His knowledge of batteries was astonishing.  The man was brilliant.  Up until the day he died he was still running his battery business and one of his primary concerns was that his customers must be taken care of.

Lynn was an amazing man.  He had a strength and determination that matched no other.  He was loyal to a fault.  He never met a stranger and remembered everyone he met.  He was a very giving man.  He would give to others in need even when his own needs weren’t met.  He was a die hard Chevy man and loved his John Deere tractor.  He loved flowers, especially roses, and could grow practically anything.  He had a deep love for God and southern gospel music.

Lynn had a genuine love for his children and grandchildren.  Each of his grandchildren and great grandchildren touched his heart in their own special way.  We are truly lost without him.

Lynn is preceded in death by his wife Emma J Johnson and three sons, Richard L, Jr., Ron, and Steve.  He is survived by three daughters Deborah Brasfield, Pamela Brown and Jeanie Sigouin (Scott); five grandchildren, Nicole Jargo, Jason Johnson, Whitney Timperio, Lindsey Dalena and Caleb Brasfield; seven great grandchildren, Colin, Joshua, Arabella, Ceceila, Alayna, Olivia, and Harper.

Funeral services will be held at Gulf Coast Church on Friday, January 26, 2018. A Public Viewing will start at 10:30AM and the Funeral Service will begin at 11:00AM.  He be buried at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park following the services.
