obert Harrelson was born on January 30, 1958 in Opp, Alabama to Lindy and Laura (Waite) Harrelson. He passed away on August 23, 2016 at Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida.
Family
He was preceded in death by his wife Brenda Kay (Brown) Harrelson as well as his parents Lindy and Laura Harrelson. He is survived by his sister in law Sharon Brown of Pinellas Park, Florida; as well as his in laws Jean and Richard Brown of St. Petersburg, Florida and many relatives in Alabama.
Military History and Awards
Staff Sergeant Robert Harrelson entered into the United States Air Force on April 4, 1980 in Montgomery, Alabama. Robert was a Munitions Systems Specialist and was honorably discharged in 1986 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. At the time of his discharge he was eligible to wear the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Longevity Service Award, two Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbons as well as his designation as a small arms expert marksman. After Bob left the Air Force he joined the Pinellas County Sheriffs Department where he retired as a corrections officer.
Hobbies
Bob was a proud member of the Pinellas Geological Society and was also a avid woodcarver and participated in local organizations. Bob loved the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed walking through the local parks and enjoying the Florida weather.
Military Honors
A memorial service to honor the life of Robert Harrelson is scheduled for Monday, November 14, 2016 at 9:15 am at Bay Pines National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the MacDill Air Force Honor Guard. Guest should arrive at Bay Pines National Cemetery at 9:00 am.
Special Recognition
The Brown family would like to thank the staff at Bay Pines VA Medical Center for the outstanding care that they gave to Robert during his final illness. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Bob was such a kind man. He and Brenda were good friends to my parents Hugh and Leona Sheffield and a comfort to me when my father died. I enjoyed our times together at the Pinellas Geological Society. He was such a strength for Brenda and showed that same strength of character in his final days. Bob, we will miss you in January….and always.
