Robert Paul “Butch” Bergeron, age 59, passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Robert was born on November 26, 1958 in North Hampton, MA to Robert Patterson Bergeron and Mary Kelley Bergeron. He graduated from Dixie Hollins High School in 1976, and after traveling the world with the United States Navy, Robert graduated from Florida State University.
“Butch” was a walking encyclopedia of rock music and Seminoles football, and could teach a graduate-level course on either. Most importantly though, Robert was a loving and proud father and grandfather, who valued his family time over everything else. He loved the city of Tampa, but everyone knew Robert just could never leave his beloved friends at the Boathouse, where everyone knew his name. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Robert is survived by his three children: Robert Bergeron, Kimberly Cooper, and Taylor Bergeron; his sisters: Dawn Begley, Sandy Wright, and Cindy Moores; his brothers: Richard Bergeron and Carl Bergeron; and his grandchildren: Noah, Ava, and Lennon; his dog Max; and many loving extended family. Robert was a loving father, grandfather, and friend to everyone—even Gators fans.
A private service will be held, but please take a Fireball shot and listen to a Led Zeppelin song in Robert’s honor, if you feel inclined. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

We were married for 22 years and even though we were not together anymore, all the beautiful memories remain.. you were a good man and a wonderful father to our girls… thank you for all your love and all the beautiful memories!!! I met Rob at the Boathouse and became quick friends. Had many a shot of Fireball with him. He will be sorely missed as a great neighbor and friend.
This is very sad for me. He was a great guy but also the first of my high school friends (St. Pete Dixie Hollins Class of 76) to pass away. It’s like losing a piece of our teenage years. I am grateful for his service to our Navy. I only wish I had gotten to know his kids before he died. You all made your dad proud. I was honored to help as your funeral director but more honored to be his friend.

Robert was a real powerhouse and a leader in the TBBA. He chaired many committees, was a member of the Board of Directors and was a member of the FHBA Board. He will be greatly missed.
