Rosalie Gregson Murray of Clearwater passed away on August 7,2025, at the age of 83.
Rosalie was born on November 19, 1941, in Hartford, Connecticut to James (Jim) and
Rose Gregson.
Family was always the most important part of Rosalie’s life. She
married William (Bill) S. Murray on June 26, 1962, in a ceremony at the United
States Coast Guard Academy chapel. Her 21 years as a Coast Guard wife had Rosalie
and Bill raising their four children throughout the United States,from
New Bedford, MA to Pensacola, FL to Corpus Christi, TX to Kodiak, AK,
to Duluth, MN to New York, NY and ending in Clearwater, FL where Bill retired
in 1983.
Rosalie received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the
University of Minnesota – Duluth and years later earned her Masters degree in
Guidance and Counselling from the University of South Florida in Tampa. When her
children grew older, Rosalie became the assistant director for the 7 locations of
the Boys and Girls Club of Pinellas County.
After her retirement from the Boys and Girls Club, Rosalie became very active
in the Women’s Community Club of Clearwater serving as chairperson for several
service projects and even serving as Vice President for a term.
For many years, Rosalie volunteered with the Friends of the Clearwater Library, running
their bookstore and even becoming President. She was also a member of the Junior
League and Rotary. Always willing to give of her time, Rosalie served on the PTAs for her
childrens’ schools and spent numerous hours each year volunteering in the classrooms of
her children and grandchildren.
Rosalie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, her most cherished role.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Jim and Rose Gregson; and
her brother, Richard (Dick) Gregson.
She is survived by her sons David, Jim and John (Michelle); daughter, Karen Ferguson (David);
and six grandchildren; Devin Ferguson, Mackenzie Ferguson, Alyssa Murray, Sean Murray, Kayleigh
Murray and Shane Murray. Also, Rosalie is survived by her sister, Roberta Rydberg (Jerry) of
Jupiter, Florida, and brother, Bob Gregson (Judy) of Southport, North Carolina.
Her halo is shining brightly!
Services will be held in her honor Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Veteran’s Funeral Care,
830 N. Belcher Rd. Clearwater, FL 33765 @ 11:00 a.m. with gathering beforehand at 10:30 a.m.
