Russell E. Voorhees


Russell E. Voorhees, 79, of Pinellas Park, Florida passed away on Sunday, October 2nd, 2022 at the Suncoast Hospice Mid-Pinellas following extended illnesses.

On December 21st, 1942, he was born in Pittsburgh, PA to parents Andrew Voorhees and Goldie Edith Burgeson Voorhees.

Russell worked at Montgomery Ward for several years and at Pet Dairy for over two decades. He served in the US Navy from 1964 to 1968, achieving the rank of CT2 as a Communication Technician. During his Naval Service, he received the National Defense Service Award and the Good Conduct Medal. Russ grew up in Pittsburgh and moved to Florida in 1969- he also served in the Naval Reserves from 1968 to 1970.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother- Donald, sisters- Janet Green and Loretta Dutill, brothers-in-law- Edward Callahan, John Vanick, and Glen Green.

He is survived by his brother- Thomas Voorhees of Pinellas Park, sisters- Goldie Voorhees of Pinellas Park, Lorraine Callahan of Pinellas Park, and Doris (Stanley) Voorhees-Haupt of Hudson, FL, and several nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces.

The family would like to thank Suncoast Hospice Silver Team and the Suncoast Hospice Mid-Pinellas Care Center.

Russ was the most wonderful son, brother, uncle, and friend. We will miss him more than words can say.

A remembrance service will be held in his honor on Sunday, November 13th at Lake Seminole Park, Shelter #3 from 12pm to 4pm.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society.
