Sally S. Cunningham, 85, passed peacefully with her daughters at her side on Thursday, March 31, 2022 , at Belleair Rehabilitation Center in Clearwater, Florida.
Sally was born June 29th, 1936 in Williamsfield, Ohio, the first child of John and Ruth Steen. In her teen years Sally moved with her family to Poland, Ohio, where she attended and graduated from Poland Seminary High School. This is where Sally meets the love of her life, John Brown Cunningham Jr. ( Skip). Marrying Skip on her 21st Birthday, her lifelong love beginning.
Sally attended Youngstown State University for a brief period before becoming a Army wife to Skip and moving to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Sally had a busy life raising 3 daughters but always belonged to multiple organizations including: Mahoning Valley Campfire Council Board Member, Leading two campfire groups, Pass President of the Poland Middle School PTA, Member of the Republican Women’s Club, Past President and Member of Delta Chi Epsilon Sorority, Youngstown State University, Member of Altrusa International, Past president of Poland Business Association, Director Mary Kay Cosmetics, Community Bible Fellowship group leader in Clearwater, Florida and assisted with teaching in her Bible Study group at First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks where she has been a member for the past 12 years.
After the passing of her beloved husband and her oldest daughter, Kim Tiberio, Sally moved to Florida in August of 2008. Sally enjoyed her senior years living on the beach in Redington Beach, Florida nearest her 2nd daughter, Kellie Sipos and her 4 granddaughters.
Sally enjoyed, walking the beach, parties at her condo, riding her horse K.A. Welcome Trouble, entertaining northern visitors and visiting her 3rd daughter and granddaughter, Karrie Plaskett, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Sally was an avid Ohio State and Pittsburg Steelers fan and attended many of their games over the years.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents ( John and Ruth Steen), husband ( Skip Cunningham), first daughter ( Kim Tiberio) and granddaughter ( Emilie Sipos)
Sally is survived by her two sisters, Bonnie Summers, Sharmon Lesnak and only brother, Jon Steen, as well as her two daughters, Kellie Sipos and Karrie Plaskett. Sally was so proud of her 9 grandchildren ( Shawn Tiberio, Joshua Cunningham, Greg Tiberio, Kayla Plaskett, Jonathan Tiberio, Emilie Sipos ( deceased) , Olivia Sipos, Madeline Sipos and Mollie Sipos) as well as 7 great grandchildren. Family was everything to Sally.
Sally will be greatly missed, and if you knew her, you were blessed as she always had a smile on her face, a kind word and a happy attitude through everything life dealt her. She always said her faith and love of the Lord were what got her through it all.
We are asking in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Kim Tiberio Scholarship Fund, Sally started this fund in honor of her deceased daughter, and to assist students in the respiratory therapy program at Youngstown State with their tuition. I lost my best friend but I know she is in a much better place with Skip and Kim. I will never forget her kindness and her unbelievable faith in god. Kellie, Karrie and family!! My heart is broken!! Mrs. Cunningham was so beautiful, loving and kind. She was like a second mom to me growing up!! So many fond memories traveling to Florida for spring breaks, camping everywhere, just hanging out in the neighborhood and the list goes on and on!! She will truly be miss so much!! We loved Ms.Sallly so much. From the first time we met those sparkling eyes and sweet smile we were in love. She has been in our heart every since. We have many memories with her and Karrie, Jerry, and Kayla. Pool days, cooking days, Island days, Ocean Springs adventures, and simple days of pure enjoyment. This sweet soul will never leave us. Sally, you had a smile and good word for everyone you ever met. You made lifetime friends with more people than we could count. We’ll always think of you organizing our parties, our welcome back parties to the Belleview for the new arrivals. Our shuffleboard contests (which you won often), so much fun and memories we will never forget and we will never forget you (and Skip). The abundance of love you had for all whoever knew you. It was a a privilege to have been a part of your life and you will always dwell in our hearts, until we meet in the Garden once again. Our Love and condolences. Forever..
