Sidney J. Stubbs, III

Sidney J. Stubbs III, died Sunday, December 12, 2021, at his home in Tampa, FL.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret “Peggy” Smith Stubbs, daughter Elizabeth Kurz (Roger) of Tampa, and son Sidney J. Stubbs IV (Carolyn) of Waverly, AL, as well as, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, a great grandson and step-great grandchildren.

Born November 8, 1923, in Douglas, GA, Sid was a graduate of Sewanee Military Academy and the University of the South (Sewanee).  He served in the USMC during WWII and the Korean War before going into the Marine Corps Reserves in Orlando where he was honorably discharged as a Colonel after serving a total of 33 years.

Following his military service, Sid was a business owner and entrepreneur in DeLand, FL, for over 40 years.  He served his community as a life-long Rotarian.  At St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in DeLand, he served in many capacities including Senior Warden.  He enjoyed traveling the United States with his young family, and then internationally with Peggy.  He was a life-long learner and avid reader, particularly, of American history.  He and Peggy retired to LaGrange, GA, in the late ’90s where they made many new friends and enjoyed many happy times.  In 2012 they moved to Tampa for a second retirement, again making new friends and enjoying more happy times.

The family is forever grateful to the loving staff at Canterbury Tower Health Center in Tampa for his care through the isolation of COVID and the quality of life he enjoyed in his later years.
