Sonny E. Haskins

Sonny Edward Haskins was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. After a valiant journey with Cancer, he passed away peacefully at his home in Clearwater, FL on August 17, 2022 at age 77. He is survived by his husband and partner of 37 years, Wannie Taylor; sister Jeanne Clawson, brother Donald Haskins, sister-in-law Kathy Turner Haskins; nephews Roger (Julie) Haskins and Gregg Clawson; nieces Kimberly (Ray) Mertins, Karen (Richard) Herbs, Cindy Clawson and Donna Callen. Mr. Haskins is predeceased by his parents, Clayton and Esther Haskins; siblings Roger (Kathy) Haskins Sr. and Robert Haskins. Before moving to Florida in 1985, Sonny spent his early years in Syracuse, NY and proudly served in the US Air Force. After his military service, Mr. Haskins worked as a carpenter, then later trained to be a Licensed Practical Nurse, providing exceptional care at the VA in Bay Pines, FL until his retirement in 2007. Sonny’s wit, no-nonsense nursing skill and intrepid advocacy for his fellow veterans made him a favorite among his patients and colleagues. His care of others extended to animals in need and his beloved dog, Sophie. Sonny enjoyed working with his hands, including making garden statuaries.  He was always up for a Survivor Party with dear friends. All who knew Sonny will miss his generous heart
and determined spirit, a true survivor indeed. Mr. Haskins’ ashes will be interred at the family plot in Syracuse, NY. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
