St Elmo “Stu” Murray Miller Jr.-MSGT-USAF-Retired-“Forward Air Controller”-Aero Commando


St Elmo Murray (Stu) Miller Jr., MSGT-USAF-Retired-Forward Air Controller-Aero Commando of Clearwater, Florida passed away at the Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, Florida on October 24,2021. He was born in Tampa, Florida on September 18, 1939 to St Elmo Murray Miller Sr. and Laura (Locke) Miller. He was a lifelog Tampa resident. Stu joined the United States Air Force and served 22 1/2 years as a Forward Air Controller (FAC). At the beginning of the Vietnam War they were known as Aero Commandos. Their job was to be  on the ground and in the line of fire, THE THICK OF THE BATTLE, directing fighters, F-100,F-105 and F4 aircrafts to strafe cannon fire and drop bobs at the exact and precise locations. FAC’s also directed heavy bombers like the B-26 and B-52 aircrafts to drop as much as 60,000 lbs. of bombs. Stu served 4 different tours of duty in Vietnam and Thailand. After retiring from the military, Stu worked in the aerospace industry until 1994 when he and his wife founded Computer Controlled Technology. He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Janice Steffens-Miller of Clearwater, Florida; sons, Stuart Miller of Lutz, Florida and Paul Miller and his wife, Marie of Wesley Chapel, Florida; a daughter, Elizabeth Miller of Tampa, Florida; a brother, Ronald Miller, Sr. and his wife, Sheryl of Clearwater, Florida; a sister, Diana Hilty of Tampa, Florida; five grandchildren: Patrick Krumbholz, Kalyn Miller, Nicole Miller, Valerie Hernandez and Jeffery Davis; and six great grandchildren: Mylinda, Aria, Claire, Braden, Rose Marie and Genevieve.

Funeral services are 11:00 am, Saturday, October 30,2021 at Veterans Funeral Care, 830 North Belcher Road, Clearwater, Florida 33765. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am in the Chapel. Full Military honors will be delivered by the Honors and Ceremony Team from Mac Dill AFB, Tampa, Florida and will begin at 1:30 pm at Sylvan Abbey Cemetery, 2860 Sunset Point Rd., Clearwater, Florida.
