Teresa N. Harris-SFC-US Army-Retired


A celebration of life will be held at the First Assembly of God Sumterville located at 2087 East County Rd 470, Sumterville, FL. on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Daniel Richwine to officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the start of the service.  Graveside services with full military honors will be performed at the Florida National Cemetery will follow.

SFC Teresa Nelson Harris, US Army, Retired, of Orlando, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Florida Hospital of East Orlando at the age of 52 years.  Teresa was born in Pontiac, Michigan to Bobby and Sharlene (Martin) Nelson.

SFC Harris was a military career woman and of the Baptist faith. She served during the Gulf War where she earned many military awards and decorations including: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal (2nd Award), the US Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), the US Army Achievement Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Saudi Arabian Kuwait Liberation Medal, the US Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Southeast Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars (BSS), the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Overseas Service Medal, the Aircraft Crewman Badge, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge. SFC Harris also graduated from the Culinary Arts Course and the Food Service Sanitation Course. She retired out of Fort Myer, Virginia in 1997.

Teresa was preceded in death by her father, Bobby Nelson. She is survived by three sons: Christopher Harris of Orlando, Nick Harris and his wife, Heather of Honolulu, HI, and CJ Harris of Orlando;  her mother: Sharlene Nelson of Waterford, MI;  her siblings: brother, Dave Nelson and sister, Melissa Nelson both of Waterford, MI; and her grandchildren: Avery and Logan Harris.
