Thomas Vickery Stem Sr., 74, Port Richey, Florida-US Army-SGT-Honorably Discharged. Funeral service is to be determined, location will be at Baltimore National Cemetery, Frederick Road, MD.
During SGT Stem’s military career he served as Field Communications Crewman as part of the 15th Battalion 4th Training Brigade. During his tenure, SGT Stem received the Marksman Medal with the M-14 Rifle.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Thomas earned his wings April 1, 2018 at the age of 74. Born in Westminister, MD on February 18, 1944, he was one of six children. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and three siblings. He was of the Catholic faith, an honorary life member of the Elks Lodge for 54 years, avid NASCAR and Ravens fan and a leader in his community. Thomas received a Citation from US Senator Barbara Mikulski for his outstanding service to the citizens of Baltimore County during the recovery efforts of Hurricane Isabel. Even in death, Thomas continued to offer support by voluntarily donating any organs upon his death. To this end, two previously blind individuals were able to receive his corneas and will receive the benefit of sight due to Thomas’s unselfish service to his community.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Lisa; two sons, Thomas Vickery Stem Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Timothy Stem of Linthicum, MD; two step sons, Eric Frederick of Baltimore, MD and Denny DeMarcy of Jonestown, PA; a brother, Mike Stem and a sister, Mary Susie Strawsberg. Thomas’s extended family also includes numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews along with other family members and friends. Thomas’s spirit impacted everyone he met. He will be missed and forever in our hearts.
A graveside service with military honors provided by the United States Army is scheduled for Friday, July 27, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Baltimore National Cemetery.
